Hear from Rory, Technology Graduate

Tell us about you!

Hi, I’m Rory. I joined Velonetic in September 2025 as a Technology Graduate. I graduated from the University of Reading with a Business and Management degree and in my spare time I play squash, go fishing and play the guitar.

Why did you want to join Velonetic?

Velonetic stood out because it combines the prestige of the London insurance market with hands on involvement in its digital transformation, giving graduates both industry credibility and innovation experience. I was excited about getting stuck in, delivering meaningful contributions and helping to drive innovation in the London insurance market.

What were you first impressions of the company?

I got the impression that Velonetic was a people first company and that has really come to life during my time on the Graduate Programme. I’ve been included and made to feel welcome from everyone in the company, especially my team who are always willing to answer my questions. Social activities have made it easy to meet colleagues and feel part of the community, and working closely with my mentors has already contributed to my growth.

How have you been supported since joining the Graduate programme?

We are supported in every way possible! I have a manager who I go to for guidance on my day-to-day work, a People Manager who ensures I’m being developed by the programme, a senior level sponsor and a graduate buddy. I also have access to a coach to support my professional development and the achievement of my performance goals.

Tell us about your graduate programme.

I joined Technology and over my 2-year Graduate programme I will rotate through 4 different teams within the function:

  • Technology Delivery, responsible for the Production services to the entire London Insurance Market

  • Security & Resilience, who constantly assess the increasing Cyber threats and ensure that Velonetic remain operationally resilient in all circumstance

  • Programme & Project Management, where skilled Project Managers work to deliver changes, safely and effectively via a strong governance process

  • Project Management Office (PMO), which oversees governance, tools, reporting and provides support across multiple projects. They also lead our 1st line risk analysis across the teams

I’ll also get the chance to complete a 3-month secondment in a different part of the business which I’m really looking forward to. Alongside that I’m currently studying for my Certificate in Insurance from the Chartered Insurance Institute, which is an industry recognised qualification.

What are you currently doing?

Currently I’m in the Project Management Office or PMO team, supporting with key activities around governance, risk, resource management, financials and Project Manager support for project gating. It is a brilliant team to be placed with as I get visibility on the many projects going on across Velonetic and my fellow team members and leaders are great people who are happy to support my development and learning. I feel like a valued member of the team because my ideas are listened to, and I’ve been trusted with meaningful tasks that contribute to the wider transformation of the London insurance market.

What advice would you give to someone thinking about applying to Velonetic’s Early Careers programmes?

My advice is to show curiosity about both insurance and technology, be open to learning across different functions, and emphasise collaboration. Velonetic values people who bring fresh ideas, who are adaptable, and who a genuine interest in shaping the future of the London insurance market.
