A Day in the Life of a Business Analyst – Armand Kiwas (Graduate)
What’s the first thing you do when you start your day?
I always start my day with a coffee, it’s a non-negotiable for me! It gives me the boost I need to get into the right mindset for the day ahead. I usually take a few minutes to catch up on emails and check my schedule, so I know what’s coming and can plan how best to tackle my tasks.
What does a Business Analyst at Velonetic do?
Business Analyst at Velonetic work on a range of different projects that support how the business operates day to day. We work closely with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), business users, and technical teams to understand how systems and processes are used and what changes are needed. Business Analysts at Velonetic act as the link between the business and technical teams, helping to translate business needs into clear requirements. We get involved in testing, including first-pass testing and application testing, to check that changes work as expected. Depending on the project, this could include working on heritage systems, current projects, and message flows. The role requires strong communication skills, problem-solving, attention to detail, the ability to work with different stakeholders, and a willingness to learn technical systems and business processes as well as having a clear understanding of the strategic view of the business.
What are you currently working on?
Since starting, I’ve had the chance to work on a variety of different tasks, which has helped me build a strong foundation as a Business Analyst. I’ve supported the creation of a Key Facts Sheet on Operations at Velonetic and helped with data mapping. More recently, I’ve been getting hands-on experience with building a PowerApp which has been a new and exciting challenge. Every project feels different, and I’m always learning.
Who do you collaborate with the most in your role?
I work closely with Business Analysts across the Velonetic teams, and that’s something I really enjoy. Everyone brings different experience and knowledge, and they’re always happy to support me or answer questions as I progress through each project.
What type of support or guidance have you received in your role?
The support has been amazing. Whenever I’m working with tools or approaches that are new to me, I’ve always had guidance to help me build confidence. There’s never any pressure to know everything straight away and it genuinely feels like a space where you’re encouraged to grow, ask questions, and try new things.
What has been your biggest learning curve or challenge?
My background is in Accounting and Finance, so stepping into a Business Analyst role has been a learning curve throughout my year at Velonetic. But I’ve found so many of my skills like problem-solving, attention to detail, and understanding how processes impact wider business outcomes transfer seamlessly into the work I do now. The biggest challenge has been adapting to new tools and technologies like AWS, but that’s also been one of the most exciting parts. Being a BA gives you the chance to pivot into different areas, work on a wide range of projects, and continuously expand your skill set.
What do you find most rewarding about being a Business Analysis Graduate?
Every project is different so the variety of the work I do I find is very rewarding, and it means I’m constantly using new skills and contributing in new ways. It’s rewarding to see how my work connects to bigger goals and supports people across the business.
What’s your favourite thing about Velonetic’s culture?
Everyone across the company is incredibly approachable, and there’s a real willingness across the business to support one another. Even as someone early in their career, I’ve felt trusted, valued, and included from day one. There’s a strong sense of collaboration, and you’re given the space to learn while being encouraged to share your ideas too.
One app or tool you couldn’t live without at work?
Music helps me focus and get into a good rhythm when I’m working so Spotify is the app I couldn’t live without. Whether I need to concentrate or something more upbeat to keep energy levels high, having the right playlist makes all the difference whilst working!
